The School Travel Cost Calculator is a public and private cost analysis tool that evaluates the costs of school transportation based on school travel and facility information, as well as student population distribution and local built environment characteristics. The Cost Calculator uses school-specific data in conjunction with school travel mode and cost estimates from STRIDE’s Quantifying School Travel Costs project to estimate the upfront public capital costs and the annual public and private operational and maintenance costs associated with a school site’s locational attributes.

This user guide serves as an overview of the tool, presents the tool as an available download, provides detailed instructions on using and modifying the tool, and supports users with a detailed cost estimate framework for those interested in costing methods.
